Let us look at the process.

1. Admitting doctor sends a Referral Letter to the hospital. The letter advises the hospital to book a bed for the patient starting form a certain date. The letter also advises the Provisional DIagnosis, Procedures to be performed, approximate time required in theater, approximate length of expected stay in the hospitalfor post operation care, Allergies, Comorbities, Special Diet requirement, Infection precautions, Medication  etc.
2. Admitting doctor also gives admission form to the patient to fill up and send to the hospital
3. The hospital booking center creates a booking based on the information given in the Referral letter. There are two components of booking - the Theater booking and the Bed booking
4. Patient sends in the Admission Form.
5. The booking record is updated with the information given by the patient in the Admission form
6. The patient may be required to attend preadmission click. If that is the case then a booking is made for preadmission clinic and the patient is informed accordingly
7. Patient attends preadmission clinic
8. Patient arrives for admission
9. Patient is admitted to allocated bed
10. The required procedures are performed
11. Patient is moved to ICU/recovery
12. As patient gets better, transfer is made to regular ward
13. Patient gets well enough to go home.
14. Patient is discharged from the hospital
