In a hospital feeding patients is the second biggest expense after the employee salaries.

In a hospital with 300 beds, everyday 900 meals are served. That is nearly 320,000 meals a year.

The dietcians have to keep track of food allergies of patients as well as their special diets requirement. The diet could change from no meals at all to liquid mealand then puree and finally normal meal. A diabetic patient may require a spcial diet.

For every single meal Nurses and Dieticians have to ensure that the patients get the right kind of meal.

Within the contraints of what a patient can eat, the patient gets to choose what he wants. The meals request can be taken on the paper based system or on the hand held devices or if each patient has acces to a computer then the request can be entered by the patient on line.

How many dieticians are there in your hospital and how are patient requests collected and processed?
